I’m tempted to say it’s because I have two children and now that both are sleeping better I’ve moved out of survival mode and into a state where I can reasonably hope to squeeze more out of my day, but I’m reading You Are Now Less Dumb at the minute, which is telling me that basically we have no clue why we do the things we do. So whatever the reasons behind it, I am trying to work more productively.
One of the big advantages for me has been how much I love sport, and how bad all my teams are at the minute. This means that by not watching a game more or less every night, I pretty much have three hours more to play with every day.
And that I can automatically stop multitasking if I stop watching baseball every time I work.
Reading the likes of lifehacker.com, Austin Kleon, and A Year of Productivity has given me plenty of food for thought, including an article on the ills of multitasking. Instead, apparently Coffitivity is great background noise to work to. I’m listening to it as I write. I never would have thought it, but I love it! Less fun than baseball, but definitely less of a distraction.
Aside from the Coffitivity recommendation, here are the three main things I’ve learned in my quest to be more productive:
1. Exercise
2. Sleep more
3. Eat better
It’s not rocket science, but it’s made a huge difference so far!
